The Department may be organised into Sections, in accordance with Article 26(7) of the Statute and Article 8 of the Departmental Regulations.
Each section performs advisory and propositional functions vis-à-vis the Council and the Executive Committee through its Coordinator.
Within the framework of the Department’s unity and its objectives, and in close functional collaboration with the other sections, each section ensures the research autonomy of its individual academic staff members.
The Department’s internal regulations govern the possible organisation of the Department into Sections, setting out in a specific annex the names and the particular thematic, disciplinary or functional areas relating to specific organisational and research needs that justify their establishment. The annex forms an integral and substantial part of the internal regulations.
The Sections have no managerial autonomy and do not have their own facilities or services.
The Sections are organised in accordance with the Competition Sectors or the Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors, or a combination thereof, for which the department is the coordinating body. As a rule, each Section comprises at least 10 ten professors and/or researchers, unless there are justified and documented reasons to the contrary.
The affiliation of professors and researchers to individual Sections is determined by their membership of Scientific-Disciplinary Groups.
