The Department of Architecture (DiDA) acts as a strategic hub for collaboration with public bodies, businesses and organisations, offering solid expertise in scientific research and applied design. The main opportunity for external partners lies in the DiDALabs system, a state-of-the-art infrastructure dedicated to real and virtual modelling, materials testing, sustainability, ergonomics and social innovation. These facilities enable third parties to carry out applied research and technological innovation projects in sectors ranging from restoration to visual communication.
The aim of these partnerships is to integrate university education with applied creativity through memoranda of understanding and operational agreements, thereby strengthening ties with the local area, particularly within the Florence metropolitan area. The priority areas of focus relate to the major challenges of our time: the regeneration of public spaces, adaptation to climate change, innovation in housing, and the management of migration. Furthermore, the DiDA offers strategic support for participating in complex calls for proposals, such as those under the PNRR, and for joining international networks (e.g. EUniWELL). Finally, the Department’s global reach opens up opportunities for international cooperation, enabling businesses and organisations to engage with a training and project model that is recognised in key markets such as Morocco, China, Albania and France.
