Research carried out by the Department of Architecture at the University of Florence is based on the concept of design as a tool for knowledge, innovation and the transformation of cultural, social, environmental and territorial systems.
DIDA promotes theoretical and applied research in the fields of architecture, design, landscape, planning, urban studies and heritage, emphasising interdisciplinary approaches focused on the major contemporary transitions: sustainability, ecological transition, urban regeneration, landscape management and the transformation of the built environment.
In this context, the Department actively participates in the main research funding schemes at local, regional, national, European and international levels: from European Union programmes, such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and Creative Europe, to national calls for proposals launched by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), including PRIN, FIS, FARE and initiatives linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR); ranging from regional programmes – with particular reference to calls for proposals issued by the Region of Tuscany – to opportunities promoted by foundations, public bodies, cultural institutions and international organisations.
Through this diverse range of programmes, DIDA supports the scientific quality, design capacity and collaborative spirit of its research communities, consolidating its role as a centre for critical analysis, experimentation and innovation in the field of design culture.
