Repopulating the Apennines

Scientific and operational objectives

“Ri-App” (Re-inhabiting the Apennines) is a research unit whose aim is to carry out research and interdisciplinary analysis, and to develop strategies from the perspectives of architectural design, the local area, and social and cultural dynamics, with a view to revitalising and regenerating places in the Apennines and inland areas.

In particular, the research group addresses the following themes from a multidisciplinary perspective:

• development of strategies for the revitalisation and regeneration of smaller towns and outlying areas, through research and educational initiatives coordinated with institutional and third-sector stakeholders;
• development of strategies and initiatives to promote local areas for tourism, with a view to cultural, social and environmental sustainability, taking into account an anthropological analysis of socio-cultural changes and representations;
• consultancy services for the drafting of projects relating to repurposing, restoration, and urban and architectural regeneration, with a focus on environmental sustainability and inclusion (immigrants, the elderly, young people, etc.);
• consultancy services for the drafting of projects relating to cultural welfare and the enhancement of cultural heritage, with particular regard to social relations and the relationship between long-standing and new residents, as well as those considered vulnerable or at risk, with a view to full inclusivity.
