Cities and territories beyond the North

Year of publication: 2013
pages: 128
format: 28x21,5 cm

This issue deals with the territories “beyond the North”: on the one hand the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China), the Islamic nations of the Mediterranean and the Middle East and the countries of Latin America; many countries, on the other, where all parameters, from the GNP to other more up to date indicators of human and welfare development, correspond to a widespread and extreme poverty accentuated by the effects of a pervasive globalisation. A poverty that extends from the slums of megalopolis to the boundless areas of subsistence agriculture, in a progressive state of abandonment, a situation which is getting worse all over the planet, including in the North. At the same time human and material resources are giving signals of an inversion of the trend, thanks to the participation of the inhabitants in processes that engender virtuous context transformations. This monographic number on Context is devoted to experiences in this direction. The contributions present in this issue are an opportunity for theoretical, methodological and operational reflections on exemplary cases from places with very diverse contexts.
