ABITA

 

Description of activities

ABITA is an inter-university research centre established by the University of Florence, the Polytechnic University of Milan, the University of Naples Federico II and the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, which was joined in 2004 by the Polytechnic University of Turin, the University of Genoa, the Second University of Naples and the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria.

The Centre was established to promote cooperation and the exchange of information, data, methods and programmes, with a view to developing research and teaching activities on the themes of sustainability, energy saving and the integration of renewable energy into architecture and environmental technologies, thereby raising the calibre and standards of these subjects in university teaching, research and external consultancy for organisations and public authorities.

The strategic objective of the ABITA Centre is to train researchers and technicians by running advanced training courses and Master’s programmes, whilst maintaining ongoing contact with public and private institutions; the results of the activities undertaken are then disseminated through the organisation of conferences, round-table discussions and workshops, and finally through specialist publications on Bio-ecological Architecture and Technological Innovation for the Environment.

Over the years, ABITA has forged strong links with institutions both in Italy and abroad, providing them with consultancy and technical and scientific support for the drafting and implementation of strategic projects, integrated planning schemes and urban regeneration initiatives, with a focus on high energy and environmental quality objectives.
